For many years, driving a supercar was reserved for the one per cent of society, due to their exorbitant prices which would require most of us to work for decades and save every penny just to afford one. However, there is one way most petrolheads can experience the thrill of driving a supercar without the crazy costs of owning one – a supercar driving experience.
Xtreme Xperience specialises in providing car enthusiasts with supercar driving experiences all over the United States, including supercar track experiences and ride-along with professional drivers, as well as open road experiences which let you drive a supercar of your choice on the open road, and even take a passenger.
A few weeks ago, Xtreme Xperience invited Faster Living creative director Leta Taylor to the Auto Club Speedway in San Bernardino to experience their track day package first-hand. Of course, being the petrolhead that she is, Leta accepted the invitation and chose to drive one of the most legendary supercars around – the Ferrari 488 GTB.
Once you arrive at the race track, each driving experience day starts with a check-in where you’ll receive special cards to show the race track team which cars you’ll be driving on the day. Afterwards, the drivers head to the safety briefing where they are instructed on the rules of the racetrack and all the necessary safety precautions to ensure their safety throughout the day.
After the safety briefing, the drivers head to their vehicles, where they are met by their driving instructor that will be accompanying them on the track. Once in the vehicle, the instructor helps the driver familiarise themselves with the vehicle and its controls, and explains the basic safety rules. Once this is complete, you’re ready to head for the track!
Once they set off, each driver has a few laps to complete around the circuit. The first lap allows the instructor to explain the track and the tips on how to achieve the fastest lap time. It also lets the driver get familiar with the car, and learn the braking distances for each corner.
The second lap is where the real fun begins! During this lap, your instructor will normally allow you to start pushing the car a little more and picking up more speed as you become more comfortable with the car. Once the second lap is complete, it’s time to give it your all and go for your top-speed lap! During this lap, your instructor will still give you pointers on how to maximise the performance of the car but will allow you to go as fast as you safely can based on the conditions of the track.
Even though on the day of her driving experience, Leta was faced with a wet track due to rain in the morning, the experienced instructors ensured that she could still have fun in the supercar she was driving while maintaining the grip required to safely complete her laps. Professional instructor expertise is one of the most important parts of a great driving experience as it allows the driver to fully enjoy the car while staying safe on the track.
After finishing their drive, each driver can purchase a video of their lap which includes onboard footage, as well as track analysis, speedometer readings, and the g-force measurements which let them analyse their driving or simply have as another memory of their already unforgettable experience.
Overall, Xtreme Xperience is one of the best gifts for any petrolhead, and will definitely make for one of the most memorable days of their life.
